Due to a decline in the demand for steel products globally, the company shut down blast furnace No. 1 at its Smederevo works in July. It promised to restart the plant once conditions improved.
With its two furnaces, the Smederevo factory has a capacity of about 2.2 million tonnes of steel per year, while No. 1 operates at a capacity of only about 900,000 t/y. The product line includes preserved coil, electrolytic tinplate, and hot and cold rolled coil.
Between January and September 2022, HBIS Serbia produced 901,000t.
During the first seven months of 2022, the company’s shipments to the EU market totaled 397,000t, an increase of 3.9% year over year.
According to the most recent worldsteel statistics, Serbia produced 100,200t of crude steel in January, a 7.4% decrease from the same month last year. The nation produced 1.67 million tonnes in 2022, an increase of 0.3% from the previous year.
